Judy Bannerman, B.Sc., M.A., I.C.A.D.C., C.G.C.
Judy is an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor(I.C.A.D.C.), having worked in the field of addictions since 1989. She faced her own alcohol dependency in 1985 and sought treatment in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, not far from her residence. Shortly thereafter, she realized there was a lack of addiction services in her area, and that she wanted to help others suffering from the effects of alcohol and other drugs. She had been a high school teacher in her "other life", however, she went back to school, and graduated from the addiction studies program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, going on to intern at an outpatient counseling centre, in order to become certified.
Judy has since worked in residential treatment settings with both men and women, counseled pregnant and parenting women on an outpatient basis, worked with families and groups, and continues to give workshops on a number of related topics. Her personal experience with addiction, and its effects on families, has been an asset in her clinical work with all her clients. She has an understanding of the disease that is truly beneficial to all parties in her family intervention work.
At a professional level, Judy now instructs in the Addiction Studies Program at McMaster University and trains other counselors in courses related to assessment, ethics, how to work with women, and with families. As well, she grades the assignments for those students using distance learning and the internet to take courses offered by Mcmaster.
As well as becoming qualified as a gambling counselor (Certified Gambling Counselor or C.G.C.), Judy is also a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) working with the Department of Transport in assessing truckers who test positive for alcohol or other drugs.
Realizing that few services still exist in the field in many geographical areas, she decided the time had come to offer a different type of help; through the telephone and the internet.
Judy is available, usually within 24 hours, to help you with your problems around chemical dependency, whether for yourself or for a family member. She is an experienced and well qualified addiction counselor.
